I've replaced my batteries three times now. Two of them have had the deformation of the battery casing mentioned in other reviews. Fortunately, I was able to extract the tray with only negligible deformation of the chassis. Also, the UPS never gives the expected two month warning and won't shut up until replaced. That said, the replacement process is easy, the return shipping with recycling is great, and the UPS handles it's purpose perfectly. Each set of batteries has lasted me about three years, probably because things run a little hot in my rack.

I had a simlar experience to another review. Two of the four batteries warped severly due to overheating. I had to pry out the cartridge using significant effort. The cartidge lasted a little over one year (just after the warranty period, of course). The APC UPS has quite a few fans to keep it running cool and the rack is well ventilated. The UPS works well and performs as expected. The battery useful life is lower than expected.

The UPS indicated a battery problem; the replacement was ordered. The previous battery had swollen and was deforming the housing. This made removal of the old battery difficult. Installation of the new battery was very simple; however, the deformed housing had to be bent back into shape for reassembly. it remains slightly deformed. I find it odd that such deformation could occur before a fault is detected. In fact, I find it difficult that such deformation could occur at all. Note, however, that the batter never leaked.

The APC Replacement Battery Cartridge #24 that my department purchased made hot-swapping out the old batteries a snap. 5-stars for ease of use APC! It was also nice to be able to ship the old battery cartridge back with the supplied return shipping label.
