From this, my first digital Receiver, I expected (digital TV) functionality, but not the very noticeable improvement in clarity ... on very familiar CD's. As a life-long audiophile, I've experienced some pretty good equipment. The VERY-good $1,000 Yamaha analog receiver to which I compared this digital receiver simply is not as clear (to my ever-lovin' surprise). At about 1/3 the price, this Denon AVR-591 was a delight, that has FAR exceeded (already high) expectations. I set up the 'surround', manually, which worked, fine ... and subtly. I ran bass speakers as the 'back' channel; after experimenting with the relative volumes, it works, terrifically. Though the chip-power-amps specify modest power, the end-result has been perfectly adequate and satisfying.

Only drawback is that ports on rear are marked for dedicated parts on remote. Component ports are for Cable, but can use other items, just remote says cable. so when I connect older DVD, I need to select cable on remote.

I'm glad I bought the system to replace my ten year old Sony receiver. Using the Audyssey sytem was nice -- I just let the system determine the best sound. What a breeze. After the set up, I just sat down and enjoyed the system. Even with TV recorded shows, the system sounded great, especially the reruns from Star Trek, the next generation. My sister visited me and heard the sound system and was very impressed.

Fantastic sound and power. Remote control hard to see key labels. Slow auto surround response.

o Very well integrated package with great sound. o Active pass through of signal when the set is off. o Loved the microphone to balance my speakers, even told me when two of my speakers were out of phase. o On screen programming was great. o Manual was pretty clear. o Couldn't figure out how to get the sound to work when using RGB for video signal.

This receiver is great! It makes my dvd's look almost like Blu-ray, I have this thing hook to my new Samsung 55" 8000 3D LED TV, the sound is fantastic, and it was so easy to setup with the auto speaker setup. This System rocks!
