The Selenium 15SWS1000 is a high-power 15" subwoofer speaker designed for use in professional applications, reproducing the range of 38 to 150 Hz in vented box designs. Thanks to its extensive thermal management features, the 15SWS1000 is capable of handling up to 800 watts RMS or 1,600 watts continuous program power. Extensive Klippel analysis and finite element software aided the design of the bumped and undercut T-yoke, assuring a minimum of magnetic rectification (off-centering) and a compatible maximum displacement (Slim). The extended pole piece ensures a correct magnetic flux distribution and improves thermal dissipation. Special attention was given to the driver's behavior when subjected to mechanical overload, meaning that the 15SWS1000 will tolerate all but the most severe abuse. The 15SWS1000 employs a 4" diameter 4-layer aluminum round wire voice coil bonded to an extremely rigid fiberglass-composite former twice the thickness of what the industry would consider typical. Possessing the necessary mass and stiffness to withstand the tremendous accelerating forces required, the non-pressed long-fiber-pulp cone is centered precisely by two counter-balancing, distortion canceling, polyester-cotton-fiber spiders. A reinforced aluminum frame effectively withstands impact and vibration. The frame also contributes to the motor's cooling, but thanks to its magnetic inertness does not redirect the motor's force away from the voice coil gap. Six vents in the frame allow air exchange between the spider and top plate, which helps reduce top plate temperature and in turn cools the voice coil. The magnetic circuit also employs a patent pending multi-cooling system that consists of a large diameter center hole surrounded by six smaller holes, forcing cool air across the voice coil.
